Empowering Parents of Children
with Lazy Eye or Squint
Did you know that:
- children with squint or lazy eye can become adults with vision loss and low self-esteem?
- many adults who had squint or lazy eye as a child look back at their childhoods with regret?
- many also resent the choices their parents made for them.?
As a parent, you want to do what’s best for your child’s eye health. But without expert knowledge, making the right choices can be difficult. It’s true that we all need to rely on the advice of professionals. But how do we know if we are getting the best advice? The Challenges Parents Face
Navigating a child’s squint or lazy eye journey can feel overwhelming. Without the right knowledge, parents may feel powerless at appointments, unsure of the best choices, or even pressured into decisions they may later regret. Some delay action, which can risk causing long-term harm to their child’s vision and well-being. Other parents feel like bystanders in their child’s journey, rather than active participants. Despite the best will in the world, many parents just don’t know what will be best for their child’s well-being.
No parent wants that feeling of being powerless to know what’s best for your child. But it’s one many parents face. Too many specialists. Too many options. Too many opinions. Seeing you child lack confidence or get bullied at school because of their squint or lazy eye is something no parent wants to face. EPOCLES arms you with the knowledge and insights you need to protect and nurture your child.

How the EPOCLES Course Helps
We believe that an informed parent is an empowered parent, able to make the right decisions and advocate with confidence. EPOCLES will help you understand things like:
- whether it’s best to patch or not, and for how long
- when glasses are essential and when they are not
- if surgery is truly needed and why sometimes it is best avoided
- what the main reasons for low self-esteem are in a child with squint or lazy eye and how to prevent them
- how to work with the health professionals constructively, neither being ignored nor coming across as a “pushy parent”.
You’ll learn things like:
- why it’s never wrong to delay surgery for squint
- how the main benefit of patching is for when the child becomes an older adult
- that loving parents are often the ones who damage a child’s self-esteem the most
- that what treatment you get depends more on your postcode than on the scientific evidence
